Materials:

Grey / silver worsted weight yarn (color B)

Blue, green or red worsted weight yarn (Color A)

Quilt Batting (polyester and wool both work)

Duct Tape

5/8” wooden dowel approximately 36” long (can buy at Michaels or other craft stores)

Yarn Needle

Size H crochet hook

Gauge is NOT important for this pattern. Make sure your stitches are tight so you do not see the stuffing and duct tape when the light saber is finished.

This pattern is worked in the round.  DO NOT turn at the end of each row.  Just keep swimming.

If you do not wish to have a solid core, you can simply reduce the length of the light. Just fasten off around 12", rather than 24".

Abbreviations:

st - stitch

sl st – slip stitch

ch – Chain

sc – Single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

tc – triple crochet

Core

Wrap the dowel rod in the quilt batting, using duct tape to secure it.  You want to use enough batting to make the dowel approximately 1.5” across.  I used 3 layers of batting cut to 4” wide.  Make sure that you duct tape over both ends of the dowel rod as well (place a piece of duct tape over the top of the dowel rod giving it a flat top).  Put the crochet light sleeve onto the wrapped dowel to test for fit.  You may need to add an extra layer of batting.

Cut a second piece of batting (3 layers) approximately 10” wide by 20” long.  Place this batting on the handle end of the dowel rod and wrap the same as above.

Assembly

Put the crochet light sleeve and the handle onto the wrapped dowel rod.  Slide the connection piece over the top of the light and sew it to both the handle and the light.  Make sure this piece is sewn well and secure.  Fasten off and weave in any remaining loose threads.
